Can be found in the most unlikely places.

Some days, I wish I could get away with walking around like this. Especially when it’s so sticky like it’s been the last few days. Though it would probably be some sort of harassment, or at least public indecency. All things considered, the weather’s been decent the past couple weeks. Not too hot, like it was in early June, and enough rain to keep things growing. However, I did just read an article about how climate change is going to make the smog worse in Northeast Ohio. And maybe it will make the winters short enough to be tolerable too. Global warming, bah.

I’ll stop now before I get on a roll. I reserve the right to express my opinion about anything whenever I want, but I’ll try to keep it to benign things. Politics has no place in gardening 🙂

I got some cheap bulbs/plants at Home Depot today. Everything was 75% off, so I picked up some dahlias, peonies, and irises. Who knows if half of it will survive, but at that price, if half of it does survive, it’ll still be a bargain.

Well, it’s clearly past my bedtime, and I need to get some sleep – a cold is making the rounds through our house, and I refuse to let it get me.

Anybody get any good late-season plant bargains recently?

Nothing terribly exciting happening lately. The definite highlight of the weekend was finishing the mudroom cubbies/shelves. Now all that’s left is getting them put up on the wall. We also went to the Shaker Square farmer’s market again on Saturday – so much fun! We picked up some strawberries and rhubarb, and made a yummy dessert. Dessert that also turned into my breakfast yesterday.

My first Father’s Day was fairly uneventful. S had to work, and C didn’t really seem to care that it was supposed to be a relaxing day for me… But we did have fun building barriers to try to keep him contained to one room so I didn’t have to continuously chase him through the kitchen. He’s constantly trying to outsmart me and race me to the dog’s bowl or something else that’s off-limits, but dad is always one step ahead, and just a bit too quick – better get used to it, son. Of course, one of these days he’ll catch me napping and end up with a fistful of dog food. Scheming kids… 🙂

And a huge thanks to all veterans for your service, and for all the sacrifices you made so I could have this silly blog.

I’m halfway through my extended weekend (I took Friday off), and I’ve gotten just about nothing done that I had planned on. Isn’t that how it usually goes though?

We spent some (read: a lot more than I had intended) time at the other house on Friday preparing it for the renters, after we bought some (read: a lot more than I had intended) meat at Whole Foods as part of their Memorial weekend meat sale, and topped it off with a dinner of Penn Station subs shared with my father-in-law, who had watched C during the day. Happy anniversary honey! Yes, Friday was also our fifth anniversary 🙂

We had a couple visitors the other day too, some turtles, a painted and a snapper. They did not appear to be traveling together, however. I’m kinda surprised we haven’t had more amphibious creatures around. With as much rain as we’ve had, the front yard has kind of been a perpetual swamp/lake.  Sadie had a good time barking at the snapper. If it weren’t so obnoxious, it would be funny – she just kept barking and barking, and this turtle is just sitting there, probably laughing on the inside. She may as well have been barking at a rock, which she’s probably done before too. Poor dog. If only she knew how much fun I have on here at her expense.

I did get some shelves built for the garage yesterday, but that’s about it so far. I’m going to try really hard to get everything else planted today, but definitely tomorrow. And, the seemingly annual Memorial Day heat wave has arrived (supposed to be pushing 90 by tomorrow), which makes working outside that much more fun! Enjoy the rest of the weekend!
