  • Homemade Violet Jelly

    Homemade Violet Jelly

Wild violets are among the first splashes of color that appear in spring to break up the drabness of winter. As the name would suggest, they’re most often a deep purple-blue (although some varieties are white or yellow) and are borne amidst heart-shaped leaves.

To many, they’re weeds, but as you know, my definition of weed is vastly different from most others’. That, combined with the fact that we’ve been stuck at home for the past two months and looking for sources of entertainment, inspired a foraging trip (across the driveway). The result of that trip was violet jelly, the prettiest jelly I’ve ever made.

  • Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

    Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

Our affinity for sourdough is well-documented, and we may have a new addition in the fold. We’ve made these sourdough cinnamon rolls for the last two Christmas mornings, and it might be a new tradition.

Not only are these rolls as delicious as any other I’ve tried, they’re made with a living sourdough starter. This results in an extra-flavorful roll, as well as imparting a number of health benefits.

  • Homemade Spiced Apple Cider Jello

    Homemade Spiced Apple Cider Jello

One of the many fall highlights for us is the start of apple cider season. There’s just something about it that fits perfectly with the crispness of the air, the vibrant colors of the leaves, and the smells that accompany the changing of the seasons. It’s equally delicious enjoyed cold and fresh or served warm, mulled with spices. Because of its deliciousness versatility, we also figured that it would be delicious transformed into apple cider jello.

Safe to say, apple cider jello has become a new favorite.

Best Zucchini Recipes: 20+ Healthy and Delicious Ways to Use Your Summer Squash Bounty!

A lot of people like to grow zucchini. They’re pretty easy, productive, and forgiving. Sometimes too easy, productive, and forgiving. In reality, we could probably get all we need from one plant. But honestly, who only grows one of something?

If you’re starting from seed, you’re going to plant at least a few in case one doesn’t come up and one gets eaten by a slug. Then, when they all come up, who has the heart to pull up the others? And of course, if you’re buying plants, they only come in the three packs anyway, and you don’t buy three just to throw away two.

So inevitably, we end up with a lot of zucchini, and man cannot live on zucchini bread alone. I mean, it’ll carry me a long way, but not forever. To help you in these trying times, I’ve put together a bunch of the best zucchini recipes from my fellow bloggers. They’re easy, healthy (generally), and all in one place.Best Zucchini Recipes

  • Plated Landscape 2017: Ohio City Farm and Refugee Response

In what has turned into an annual tradition (six years running now!), we recently had the opportunity to attend a Plated Landscape put on by Spice Caterers. These are always one of the highlights of our summer/fall, and as usual, our expectations were exceeded.

This go-round was different both because of the early timing (June 2) and the location, an urban farm near the banks of the Cuyahoga River in downtown Cleveland. Granted, this is not 300 acres of amber waves of grain, but a farm it is, only nestled behind a large apartment complex.
