  • 2015 Year In Review

    It’s been awhile since I had a “what have we been up to” kind of post, so since today’s the last day of 2015, I thought it would be fitting to do a quick recap of some things that happened this year.

    Mostly because I enjoy doing occasional pic-heavy posts of the kids, but also because I think it’s a good idea, at least every now and then, to remind you that there is an actual person behind this writing, and our family is just like most other families. Except for the fact that our 2 year-old asks for kombucha and C is probably the only kid in kindergarten packing rutabaga fritters in his lunch. But completely normal otherwise…

    2015 was a year of ups (we took some trips, sold our old house, started new chapters in life, and generally made it through the year in once piece) and downs (well, except for Brando, who thought jumping in front of a car would be a good idea). 2016 will almost certainly hold some ups and downs too, because what year doesn’t? But from all of us here, we hope that your year is more good than not good, and that a year from now, you can look back and laugh a little! Have a blessed 2016.

  • I Know What We Did This Summer

    We’ve had a busier than normal summer. I think I’m okay with it though. I had an epiphany shortly before the Fourth of July weekend, and realized that, 1) summer is pretty short around here, 2) winter is pretty long around here, and 3) most of the winter that comes between January 2 and May kinda sucks, so therefore, we should live it up while we can.

    Okay, maybe I didn’t just suddenly realize that winters are long in Ohio, since I’ve lived here for my entire life; I just had a perspective shift. Must be getting old… or this past winter just sucked extra. Either way, I like this new philosophy, and I think we’ll try to stick with it every summer, polar vortex or not.

  • More Milestones, and a Birthday

    Yesterday was a big day in the Wright household. Can you believe that our little girl arrived a year ago? Neither can we. Crazy how time flies.

    Well, whether we can believe it or not, E is now one year old. She’s gone from a content, sleeping baby (thank goodness, after C) to a mostly content, still-pretty-good-sleeper, always-on-the-go pre-toddler with a voracious appetite who loves to antagonize her brother.

  • Three weeks and counting

    So, we’ve all survived three weeks, relatively unscathed. E is still sleeping well, most, or at least some of the time. She even pulled out a six-hour stretch several nights ago (something her brother didn’t do until he was probably eight months old), and promptly followed that up with a night of waking every two hours. Baby steps… She’s also eating like a champ (I can tell she’s mine), and packed on almost a pound and a half in just over a week and a half. May not seem like much, but that’s a nearly 20% weight gain in eleven days.

    In other news, C is still mostly a pretty good big brother, though he’s been a little crabbier lately. Whether that stems from a bit of jealousy, or just his outright refusal to take naps anymore (he’ll even tell us he’s tired and wants to sleep, but when it comes time, he wants nothing to do with it), I can’t say. I’ve been trying to pay extra attention to him so he doesn’t feel like he’s being ignored. Again, being the oldest, I know how it feels to be last year’s model when the new one comes out… just kidding, mom and dad 🙂

    The fun is just beginning!

  • Long weekend in North Carolina

    We took a little road trip to North Carolina for an extended weekend with the family. S and I were quite impressed with how well C did in the car, since his longest trip to date was about an hour. On the way down, it was late, so he slept for a good chunk of the time, but we came back home during the day and he was awake for all but an hour, with nary a cry. He did start making some loud noises toward the end when he was getting a little antsy, but other than that, he did awesome.

    The weather wasn’t great, but we had one nice day to get out in the lake for a bit. He spent a lot of time grabbing handfuls of sand and throwing it in the water (like, a couple hours), and got to ride in a boat and on a jet ski for the first time. He’s seemingly part fish, so he always has a great time with the water. Of course, since there was so much excitement, he refused to take a nap, despite our best efforts. That being said, he was still in a good mood almost the entire time. He’s a good kid.
