On Sunday afternoon, we again headed downtown, this time to catch an old-time baseball game between Forest City and the Cleveland Blues. Forest City is based out of Chagrin Falls and were established in 1996, after the original Forest City’s, one of Ohio’s oldest clubs dating to 1865. The Blues were formed in 2008 (again modeled after the old Blues, originally established in 1878) and are based out of old League Park.
The games are played using the same rules that were around 150 years ago (no gloves, underhand pitching!), the teams don replica uniforms, and the terminology is also period-appropriate. Just ask us cranks. I was not aware that we had such a vibrant vintage baseball scene around here, but apparently we do, with multiple teams playing a number of games every week or two throughout the summer.
We hung around for several innings before grabbing some dinner, and it was a pretty neat experience. Definitely a bit different for someone that’s used to modern baseball, but quite fun to watch and listen to.
