I Know What We Did This Summer

We’ve had a busier than normal summer. I think I’m okay with it though. I had an epiphany shortly before the Fourth of July weekend, and realized that, 1) summer is pretty short around here, 2) winter is pretty long around here, and 3) most of the winter that comes between January 2 and May kinda sucks, so therefore, we should live it up while we can.

Okay, maybe I didn’t just suddenly realize that winters are long in Ohio, since I’ve lived here for my entire life; I just had a perspective shift. Must be getting old… or this past winter just sucked extra. Either way, I like this new philosophy, and I think we’ll try to stick with it every summer, polar vortex or not.

Since that “a-ha” moment, we’ve gone back to North Carolina:

We’ve gone blueberry picking (and what a great year it was – we went several times and came away with something like 40 pounds):

We’ve been swimming A LOT:

We’ve been to the playground A LOT LOT:

We saw the circus that came to town:

We remodeled our other house to get it ready for sale. And took the kids to help a few times, which I thought was okay since there’s literally nothing in there that they can use to get in trouble, right? Of course, when I think “nothing,” that doesn’t always mean nothing. Kids always find something. For those wondering, that’s an entire bottle of Elmer’s glue, courtesy of her brother:

We visited an airport/plane museum:

We went golfing:

And rode on big tractors:

We saw dinosaurs:

And cool bugs (these are Promethea moth caterpillars, by the way):

We went downtown to see a whole bunch of cool light displays:

So  yeah, we’ve crammed a lot in, but it’s been really fun, and the kids love it. Making memories, right?

We’re definitely going to need the winter to rest up and recover, but there’ll be plenty of time for that starting in about two months…

Wow, you guys did cram a lot in over one short summer – thanks for sharing! It’ll be fun to look back at these pictures when the snow is drifting up past the eaves and the thermometer is dipping below zero….
